A Little Bit of Peace
Posted on 8th December, 2017 by Arlene Greenwood
During the Christmas Under the Edge street event last Saturday evening we opened our doors for those wanting a chance to escape from Christmas shopping and enjoy a bit of peace and quiet. Several prayer stations were set-up, each on a different type of peace.
Thankyou to everyone who donated to the Christmas WEbox appeal this year.
We have managed to wrap and fill 80 boxes!! These will go to children in Albania.

The WBC prayer room will be in action for 75+ hours this week as every church member (who’s not on holiday) comes in to pray for one hour for needs in the church family and for the persecuted church. Chris Lowther, our Open Doors representative has decorated the prayer room with information and multi sensory prompts for prayer in addition to the usual prayer resources.
The prayer room is always open for the use of church members, but it really comes in to its own when we’re holding one of these events Church members often sign up for 1 hour of prayer, wondering how they will fill it and end up wishing they had booked two hours as time flies by in God’s presence. We have found that the worship service on the Sunday after one of these prayer vigils is often a powerful time of encountering God. This Sunday should be no exception as Ruth Martin from Open Doors will be speaking. Come along on Sunday to find out more about what God is doing in some of the parts of the world where it is most difficult to be a Christian.

Escape from Wotton update – 161 miles!!!
Posted on 12th October 2017, by Arlene Greenwood
On Saturday 7th October Barny and Tom Wharin attempted to cycle as far away from Wotton as possible in one day. They started at 5am in the morning and ended at 7:30pm in the evening, having cycled an astonishing 161 miles!!!! They took in some sights along the way including a visit to Open Doors HQ in Witney at 47 miles, Watford football club, White Hart Lane football ground at 131 miles and St. Albans cathedral at 152 miles.
They have so far raised £3,554 in sponsorship money!! This will go to the Open Doors www.opendoorsuk.org programme to help believers in Syria and Iraq restore their damaged/destroyed homes as they seek to return to their towns and villages now vacated by ISIS.
The bike ride kicked off our autumn focus on our suffering family at Wotton Baptist Church which will include 91 hours of prayer between 14-19th November, culminating in a service on the International Day of Prayer on Sunday 19th November at 10:30am, with visiting speaker Ruth Martin from Open Doors UK
