Join one of the Churches Together in Wotton Lent Groups starting 27th February!

The Churches Together in Wotton Lent groups this year will be looking at the Unanswered Prayer course.

The five Trinitarian Churches in Wotton-Under-Edge: Holy Cross R.C.;  Oliver Memorial Chapel (Independent Congregational); St Marys (CofE); Wotton Baptist Church and Wotton United Church (Methodist / URC) have enjoyed a positive and mutually encouraging relationship for many years and Christians from these churches together with Christians and others from the Wotton Quaker Meeting and wider town community have regularly participated in worship and charitable activities including:

  • The establishment and running of The Ark café
  • The establishment and running of the Wotton Food Bank
  • The establishment and running of Wotton Community Bank
  • Open the book (presenting the bible at Blue Coat and British primary schools)
  • Christian Aid Week collections and second hand shop
  • The annual Remembrance Day service and wreath-laying ceremony
  • The annual Women’s World Day of Prayer

Furthermore, Churches Together in Wotton has established and maintained the following activities:

  • The gift of a bible to all school leavers from British and Blue Coat Schools at their respective leavers’ services·
  • Octave of Prayer for Christian Unity meetings
  • Alternating annual Lent lectures and Lent groups
  • An annual Good Friday March of Witness
  • An annual Easter Sunday sunrise service
  • An annual Holiday at Home event for elderly and isolated residents
  • Production and distribution of Christmas cards detailing Christmas services at all churches
  • A monthly ‘Together in Wotton’ bulletin
  • A website
  • A planter on Church Street
  • The Wayside Pulpit with Christian posters at Rowland Hill’s alms houses
  • A Christmas Living Crib event most years
  • An annual CTIW prayer meeting

We, as Christians of the Trinitarian churches in Wotton, commit to:

  • Encourage and support one another in Christian mission and discipleship
  • Speak positively of one another in public
  • Explore and seek to understand our differences and similarities
  • Pray together and for each other
  • Be alert to new opportunities to act together
  • Work together with other groups and individuals seeking the good of the broader community
  • Encourage the Clergy to meet frequently
  • Pray and work for wider Christian unity together in association with Gloucestershire Churches Together
  • Further, we commit to the establishment of a small group consisting of a representative of each church – clergy or other leaders (plus a Quaker observer, TIW editor and Treasurer) to meet at least six monthly in January and July (chair to rotate through the churches annually)
