As part of God’s family, caring for each other is a real privilege and a priority activity. As the Scripture says ‘if one part suffers every part suffers with it, if one part is honoured, every part rejoices with it. Now we are the body of Christ and each one of you is part of it’ (1 Corinthians 12 verse 26).
The prime place where every day pastoral care and encouragement takes place is in our homegroups; that is one reason why we encourage our members to join such a group. In these small groups we get to know each other well which enables us to provide care for each other when we need it.
Most of our home groups are still meeting via zoom. Please contact Arlene for details. All welcome.
Mondays @ 8pm (normally Mondays @ 9am, Wotton)
Leader: Jo Wharin
We are a small group of women who during lockdown have been meeting on zoom every Monday evening during term time at 8pm to do the prayer course together. We start with a quick catch up before watching the prayer course session together and then discussing the questions, we then share any needs/ thanks and pray for one another.
In September we will review whether we continue to meet online or resume our normal pattern of meeting together on a Monday morning at the manse.
The atmosphere is relaxed and the structure flexible. We have a heart for other mums and local schools in the area. Babies and pre-school children are welcome too on the first Monday of the month when we meet at the church instead.
Fridays @ 1pm, Wotton
Leader: Louisa Lockwood
WOW (Women of WBC) is for anyone looking to deepen their faith and find encouragement and fellowship in their daily life. It’s a classic formula of Bible study, prayer and fellowship. When we can meet again in person, refreshments will always be a key part of gathering! Everyone is welcome.
Mondays @ 8:30pm, Hillesley (normally Mondays 7:30pm)
Leader: Arlene Greenwood
We are based in Hillesley although we are currently meeting on zoom on Monday evenings 8:30-9:30pm. We are using the Bible Society Lyfe studies at the moment which include a short video on a theme, a Bible passage and a few challenging questions. We pray for one another each week using zoom chat prayers and sometimes in smaller breakout groups. We've also had some fun quizzes. Anyone is welcome to join in, you don't have to be from Hillesley.
Tuesdays @ 2:30pm, Wotton
Leader: David Wilson
We are a group of mostly retired people, usually meeting in Wotton on Tuesday afternoon. Since the outset of Covid-19, most of us are not able or not comfortable using Zoom to keep in contact. Instead we keep in touch by telephone and email. We encourage and pray for each other by sharing how we are managing and sharing occasional meditations/links to YouTube clips including the church’s weekly sermons which most of us can access.
Tuesdays @ 8pm, Dursley
Leader: David King
We are based in Dursley and Cam and most of us live there or in Berkeley so we normally meet in one of those towns. However, at present we are using Zoom for remote meetings until we can meet in each other’s homes again. Our meetings start at 8.00pm and last about 1½ hours. Each evening includes a time of study and finishes with prayer for each other and for other current concerns. We are a mixed-age group which allows for a good range of views and experiences.
Wednesdays @ 7pm, Wotton
Leaders: Elizabeth Woodland and Judy Breavington
Currently meeting on Zoom.
Wednesdays @ 8pm (1st and 3rd weeks), Wotton
Leaders: David and Margaret Barter
The Explore Group is mainly for those who are looking further into the Bible and the Christian faith and seeks to address their questions and concerns. We are currently meeting via Zoom on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday each month at 8.00. for about an hour and a quarter. We currently review the passage preached on the previous Sunday, discuss and share thoughts and pray for one another. Others are most welcome to join us.
Wednesdays @ 7:30pm, Wotton
Leader: Phil Green
About eight people comprise this group which meets weekly. Since the Covid19 lockdown we have continued to meet using Zoom. As there is a time limit in the basic Zoom package the meeting has been divided into two parts of forty minutes each. In the first part we catch up with news of each other and share topics which we pray about together. After a break of a few minutes the second part follows with a Bible study and/or discussion on issues in the Christian life and, occasionally, a quiz. Despite the limitations of communication online the group is still functioning well and would welcome others joining.
Wednesdays @ 7:30pm, Charfield
Leaders: Martin and Margaret Barker
We are a warm and friendly group of married and single people in our 40s-70s. We meet in Charfield or Kingswood. We normally catch up over a cup of tea, open in prayer and then spend time studying scripture and sometimes share Communion. Our goal is to be Christ-like in our work places and community, our strength is prayer.
